I'll try to address all the big questions I get about the strip on this page. If you have a question, feel free to shoot me an email at joshway (at) chroniclecomic (dot) com.
Is Chronicle based on your own experiences?
Not entirely. I did work at a newspaper after graduating from college, and some of my experiences there will undoubtedly influence the strip. But Chuck's story is not based on anything from my own life.

Does it take place in New York?
No, unless your imagination insists it does. Chronicle takes place in an unnamed state with a big city/upstate dynamic very similar to that found in New York.

What pencils/pens/paper do you use?
My process is entirely digital, and everything from sketching to inking to lettering takes place in Adobe Illustrator. I draw with a stylus and a 9"x12" Wacom Intuos 3 Tablet. It took a long time to get comfortable drawing with a tablet, but now I would never go back. Not having to scan and clean up line art is one of the biggest reasons I am able to commit to a daily comic. I hope some day soon to post a tutorial about drawing and inking in Illustrator.

Why black and white? It's the internet, dude, not a newspaper!
The black and white is both an artistic and a practical decision. On the one hand, I really like to use the dynamic contrast of black and white to dramatically tell my story. At the same time, it's easier for me to produce strips in black and white, which in turn helps me keep my commitment to post both daily and on time. Another reason, a big one for me, is that I hope to put out annual Chronicle print collections, and black and white books will be much cheaper for me to make and for you to buy.
